Strategy
Westward Capital invests in profitable, small to mid-sized businesses with significant
growth potential, defensible market positions, and strong management teams.
Our strategy for identifying and supporting such investments has several key components:
Industry Specialization
Westward
is focused exclusively on the media, marketing services, information, and
communications industries, where we have an expansive network of relationships
and many years of experience as investors and advisors. One of our key
advantages is our deep knowledge of both traditional and emerging business
models within these focus industries. This enables the firm and its portfolio
companies to best capitalize on industry shifts, as well as to identify
attractive contrarian opportunities.
Broad Financial Expertise
Westward’s
investing experience spans a wide range of transactions — including
leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, corporate divestitures, and growth
equity investments — affording us a high degree of flexibility to
structure the most appropriate transaction for a given situation. Because
our experience is based in the smaller end of the middle market, we understand
the specific issues faced by small to mid-sized companies and have the
appropriate relationships to address their financing needs.
Proactive Approach
Due to
our industry focus and expertise, Westward is able to identify specific
market segments that are poised to benefit from current industry dynamics.
Within those segments, we make a practice of proactively pursuing great
companies and management teams. This approach enables us to make well-informed
investment decisions, facilitate timely investment execution, and create
proprietary opportunities for the firm and its portfolio companies.
Small-Cap Focus
We believe
that established, small to mid-sized businesses provide the most attractive
opportunities for building shareholder value. Such companies are typically
underserved by traditional private equity and venture capital firms. However,
Westward’s focused approach was designed specifically with these
types of companies in mind.
Disciplined Methodology
Westward is very selective in its
approach to investments, pursuing only the most compelling opportunities
in partnership with management of the highest quality and character. Westward’s
investment process is guided by an emphasis on focused investment theses,
rigorous due diligence, and thorough industry analysis. The firm’s
industry specialization greatly enhances this process, enabling us to make
decisions more quickly and with better information.
